NITROUS
OXIDE SEDATION |
Nitrous
oxide, better know as “laughing gas,” is one of
the safest anesthetics available. It is a colorless non-flammable
gas with a pleasant, slightly sweet odor and taste. It is
used for patients that are not to comfortable and are nervous
while being treated. |
|
How
does Nitrous Oxide work during a visit? |
The gas
is administered with a comfortable mask placed over the nose.
You will be instructed to breathe in through the nose and
out through your mouth. As breathing continues, a pleasant
level of sedation should begin in approximately 5 minutes.
|
|
Once the
patient is relaxed enough, treatment can begin. Shortly after
the treatment is done, pure oxygen is given to breathe in
for about 5 minutes to reverse the effects of the nitrous
oxide. |
|
During your
whole visit under nitrous oxide, we will be by your side,
making sure everything is fine. |
|
The effect
of nitrous oxide is often remarkable. If you are nervous before
or during dental treatment, ask us if nitrous would be right
for you. |
